About Kate
My name is Katrin Obenauf, I am 28 years old and from Germany. People usually call me Kate, so please feel free to do the same. I am wondering what to tell you about me… Well, I studied cultural studies and film. I love travelling and would like to see the whole world. Mostly though, it is very important to me to spend my life doing something useful. And frankly, what could be more useful than helping others? I will start a Masters degree in Peace and Security Studies in October and would like to (not only) work in the Middle East afterwards. Here, I will keep you updated about where I am on my pilgrimage and how it is going. Enjoy!
Aloha Kate,
Thank you for sharing your message and journey. You are an inspiration and I am honored to follow your journey and be a part of it by following you here.

Blessings, love, strength, and favorable weather to you along your journey.

Bonjour Kate..
Will be leaving my hometown Notre-Dame-des-Pins (Quebec) tuesday september 9th.
Grenoble, la Salette Fallavaux and then.. Briançon (France) saturday 13th.
Next day, on sunday, will be walking to Vercelli on the Via Francigena to Roma.
It’s a 900 km walk. Alone, no phone, no GPS just a guide and a compass.
So everything seems going well for you..
I already walked the camino de Santiago back in 2010, from Le Puy-en-Velay France)
This year, I have a bivouac.. a small tent for one person. (1.6 kg)
I read that you have one too. How is it ?? Are you using it often ??
I was in Jerusalem, august 2012 and 2013. Stayed in Israël three months.
As you would like to work in the middle East, look at this video.. interesting:

You are getting closed to the end of your trip.
Take care and be careful.
You tell me about your tiny tent..
Salut ma grande !

Hello. I am also planning to walk the Via Francigena from Lausanne to Rome.
Question: Did you have maps and hostel info ?

Hey Linda. I had the yellow Outdoor guidebook. But it was pretty outdated so some parts of the route had changed. Not sure if there is a new edition yet. An updated version with places to sleep is definitely on their website though. Most of the time it’s pretty easy to find. And you can always ask the people in the street for the via. They all know where it is 😉
Enjoy your trip!
